About Kate

Iowan, writer, dog person. Community journalism is my passion, historical perspective is my lens: I love digging in the weedy beginnings of a story.

First inspired to chase stories in high school, I earned my multimedia journalism degree with a minor in political science from Simpson College in 2015, working part-time for the Indianola Record-Herald as part of the Gannett media network. From May 2015-February 2018 I lived in Charles City, Iowa, working for a family-owned newspaper serving a community of 7,000 and three surrounding counties.

Now based in Des Moines, with a basket of pandemic knitting projects in progress.
